Quilting vs. Cooking |
|
I love to cook and bake, (the
hundreds of cookbooks on my kitchen bookshelves prove this), but I also love to
sew. Lately, I am in a constant dilemma of which one to do, I want uninterrupted
hours to sew so I can finally get something accomplished but then there’s the
pathetic vision of my husband standing in front of the fridge asking "What
did you make for dinner?" Granted, he knows how to make toast, cereal and
hotdogs, but after his third bowl of cereal he sometimes turns to the dog and
says "Remember when we used to have real food for dinner?" then the
dog turns and looks at me! I hate it when the dog takes his side!
The guilt forces me back into the land of pots and pans to whip up a quick meal. I scan the bookshelves for inspiration and my eyes come to rest on one of the three versions of the Fix It and Forget It cookbooks I own – Eureka!! This is a good day! Why didn’t I think of this before – They really should rename these books The Quilters Cooking Bible because there are so many great recipes inside that can cook while you sew. You really don’t need all three books in your collection because they have similar recipes but the light version is my favorite because it includes the fat/carb/calorie stats that help me make better food choices. To help you avoid the "look" from the tag-team champions in your house, here’s my version of a great crockpot recipe from Fix It and Forget It (original version) – I can never leave a recipe alone so I have included the original recipe name and page in case you want to check out the original recipe. Happy sewing! Chef Trixie
